Wicked!

Those of you who follow me on Instagram will have seen that I was fortunate enough to be able to go and see Wicked as part of a Christmas present from my ever so amazing mum last night at the Hippodrome in Bristol.

When we got there, the whole building was glowing green and they'd even put out a green carpet to celebrate the occasion, which I thought was a really lovely touch! There were also posters and banners dotted all around the city which myself and my friend Sophie squealed at every time we saw. It seemed like the whole city was getting excited for the show!

While we were there, I bought a programme of the show (something I do every time I go to the theatre) and bought a t-shirt to add to my collection of musical memorabilia! I've been to the Hippodrome before but something that they've added since my last visit is that you can now order from the bar/kiosk from your seat from a steward and it gets delivered to you - no more waiting in queues! Needless to say, I took full advantage of that and bought myself a real treat of a bottle of water and some ice cream for the interval!

I've never seen Wicked before and I wasn't quite sure how I would react to it. I've been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify for the past week and had convinced myself I knew everything there was to know about it as a result but it was a complete surprise to me and I loved it! I can't remember the last time I laughed that much at any play, even including the pantomime I saw at Christmas!

Our GAH-linda, Emily Tierney was hilarious and so beautiful, however she did pale slightly in comparison to Ashleigh Gray's (Elphaba) ability to well and truly belt! Both girls did an amazing job, along with the rest of the cast and the crew and I personally loved the show so much!

I think the only thing that disappointed me slightly was the song Popular, but that was mostly because it was my favourite song from the soundtrack and I just don't think it worked as well without the American accent - but obviously Emily couldn't have helped that!

I know this review was not very in-depth but to be honest, there's no chance in the world I would ever be able to have gotten up on that stage and sang a single note, let alone what that amazing cast did last night, so huge props to them! It made me very jealous that I'm not that talented but I sure am glad that some other people are!

There were actually two other bloggers at the event last night who unfortunately I didn't see while I was there, but they're both reviewing the show as well so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for Katie and Shannon!

Have you ever seen Wicked? What's your favourite musical?
