Galentine's Day!

(Image courtesy of Clockwork) Now I have never seen Parks and Recreation so I feel bad calling this post GALentine's Day after realising it was meant to be yesterday but I'm sure you can forgive me and my lack of wit for not being able to come up with another title...

Today is the first Valentine's Day in quite a few years that I've not had a Valentine and I've actually been really okay with it. I didn't have any intentions of doing anything today except occasionally text my friends to ask about how their days were going and fawning over how cute their boyfriends are.

However, what actually ended up happening today was that I had a Galentine's Day, where I spent the whole day with my mum and sisters and then the evening with my friends. I've always thought that Valentine's Day is a great day to express your love for your significant other and never really thought much about expressing my love to anyone else, but today showed me how important that is to do!

I went to go see Big Hero Six with my mum and two sisters which was actually hilarious and yes, I may have cried a little bit at the end - do not judge me until you have seen it for yourself. My stepdad and little brother went to go and watch the Rugby game at Twickenham so they've been gone for the day and my older brother is in London with his girlfriend, so it was really special to have the time to spend with just the girls in my family!

Then one of my friends text me at the last minute asking if I wanted to do something, and four of us ended up going to The Hungry Horse (which is notorious for having the best food and the nicest customers ehem ehem...) and had chips and the biggest ice cream sundae ever. Yes, at the same time. Yes, it was brilliant.

I just wanted to make this post so that a) I can remember how much I genuinely loved today if I end up Valentine-less next year and b) so that if any of you are feeling a little down or alone, just look around you at all of the people who have tried to make you smile today, or maybe even need someone to make them smile themselves.

One of the most heartbreaking things for me is to consider people who have lost their significant other, especially those who are elderly, on Valentine's Day as it must be truly heartbreaking for them. Mine was surely nothing to complain about in comparison!

I hope you have all had a lovely day, regardless of what you did or who you did/did not spend it with!
